Ayurveda, besides teaching the kind of food and the way it should be consumed, also talks about few other aspects to keep you away from obesity.
Cleansing your body periodically is as important as taking your car in for engine oil change or getting your lawn mower blades sharpened at the beginning of the growing season, or even having your house white-washed every few years. Though it is a fact that our body built up is such it can get rid of the wastes on its own, it still requires some assistance from our end, given the current eating and lifestyles of ours. The cleaner you keep the body from inside, the healthier and nutritious will it be from both inside and outside. When your body is cleansed from inside, the digestion improves and delivers nutrition to the cells and the tissues, while removing toxins from the body. If toxins are not removed from the body, it will build up making all the internal systems inefficient and may even result in excess weight gain. Additionally, excess toxins when not removed can make you feel heavy and lethargic, despite your eating habit being right. Ayurveda suggests herbal formulations, such as Triphala to facilitate the process of internal cleansing.
Exercises have been recommended by Ayurveda since times immemorial, where walking was mandatory and everyone managed lots of exercise for oneself. Walking, an exercise that was performed naturally earlier is a conscious effort in current day scenario. While walking is a universally advantageous exercise, choosing specific activities carefully is a must to keep your natural constitution or build and weight gain tendencies. Depending on the type of your body (such as Vatta, Pitta, Kalpha), you may need to exercise your body differently to stay healthy. Ayurveda offers specific exercises to suit different body types.
Sleeping adequately at night is highly important because studies reveal that sleep deprivation leads to obesity, erratic eating habits, depression and a sluggish metabolism in the body. This connection between sleep deprivation and obesity was recognized by Ayurveda long before and hence it recommends an ideal daily routine of going to bed before 10 pm and getting up in the morning before 6 am.
With a little attention to these aspects, one can enjoy life to its maximum and stay healthy all along!
