When meditation is talked in connection with weight loss, the first thing that comes to mind is can a sedentary activity really help in a goal that demands vigorous exercise and diet control? Despite the widespread awareness on obesity and its implications, there still are about 200 million Americans who are not able to get their bodies to an acceptable shape with exercise and diet control. The reason for this is simple – there is disconnect between the mind and the actions performed. If your mind is not tuned well and your desires are stronger nevertheless, then whatever attempts are made they usually are futile and not long lasting. Meditation is a means to control your mind and thus command your body to follow instructions that are required rather than desired.
With meditation, you are able to bring your body, mind, and spirit in sync. When action is performed with this kind of a coordinated synchronization, then the results are usually long term and successful. For example, your taste bud demands a piece of cake and you are able to control that desire by substituting the cake with a plate full of fruits, then you are said to have achieved control over your body and thus clearly differentiate between need and desire. Mediation is the best means to eradicate deeply felt cravings of any kind and to keep you motivated to walk on the path of what is right and good for you.
To talk of meditation in connection with losing weight, one has to understand that losing weight is far more than just exercising or dieting. All these things are pivotal but will hold no water if your mind is not sufficiently trained to have these things as your goals for losing weight. The effect of meditation cannot be explained in words; it has to be experienced by each individual to realize how its positive results unfold. Meditation helps you concentrate on your breathing while dismissing all other thoughts. When done over a period of time, meditation can help you combat temptations of any kind and make you stick to what is good and required.
Meditation, when done with proper breathing and positive visualization can empower you with a tool that can aid you in your weight loss endeavor and will be available with you 24/7. Positive visualization is another important factor in tuning your mind to achieve what it wants to achieve. Visualize a picture that you want to achieve and try to bring that picture to your mind always to keep working towards this goal. Meditation will help you from eating mindlessly and keep your desires under control.
