Snacking is considered to be a major source of caloric intake and thus is blamed for weight gain more often. However a pilot study completed recently at The Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center established that the right kind of snacks can actually help you lose weight and lower your blood pressure.
In the study that was led by Dr. David Katz, Director of Prevention Research Center at Yale Griffin University, twenty overweight adults were given two KIND Fruit & Nut Delight Bars every day for about eight weeks in addition to their regular diet. The results after the study period showed a decrease of 0.6 pounds in average weight and 0.2 points in BMI of the subjects under study. Since the number of the people studied was too small the findings are only indicative or suggestive and a follow up study is planned now on a bigger scale.
The principal investigator Dr. Katz said "Snacking can add calories to the diet, and cause weight gain. But snacking on wholesome foods can help control appetite and lose weight, while providing excellent nutrition — and displacing less filling foods that contribute empty calories. KIND bars are just that kind of snack food, made principally of nuts and fruits. We were gratified to see preliminary data support the hypothesis that such bars may offer health and weight benefits when consumed routinely. We are now eager to conduct an expanded study and generate more definitive results."
According to Daniel Lubetzky, CEO of Peace Works Holdings LLC, the manufacturer of KIND brand Fruit and Nut Bars in question here, the bar was introduced with an idea of coming out with a snack that can be both tasty as well as healthy. Daniel said, "The line was introduced five years ago to address the need for snacks that can be both healthful and delicious — to be KIND to one’s body at the same time as we are KIND to our taste buds."
With the need for fighting menaces of diabetes and obesity on the rise, the report indicates on a very important aspect of going for healthy snacks made of nutritious contents.
