Common Weight Loss Misconceptions

Are you on a weight control mission like many others without knowing too much about it? It would be a great beginning to be aware of some very common misconceptions prevalent about weight loss before you start on your weight loss plan.
Fat in the meals – is it good or bad?
Fats are actually essential parts to maintain good health of almost every body organ provided the fat contents are healthy. A simple rule about fat is that if the source of the fat is natural it is good for your body. On the other hand any processed fat or a fat that is damaged by excessive heat, light, chemical or oxidization is bad. Eating fats makes you feel full very quickly. Since body quickly fills up by eating fat, having natural fats that come from foods like avocados, nuts, and seeds would actually help you in losing weight besides providing the much required healthy fats for the body organs.
Carbohydrates are sinful!
It is appalling to see how people are getting crazy about the popular low-carb diets, whereas the important aspect is to keep a count on the calorie consumption. The long-term effect of fat-rich or protein-rich diets is not well testified, however there is enough evidence available for a rich carbohydrate diet being nutritious and ideal for weight loss.
Raising metabolism helps in eating more and losing weight at the same time!
Your metabolism controls the way and the pace with which you burn your calorie consumption. Calorie consumption is achieved in a number of ways – through breathing, walking, bending and other regular activities. Much against the claims of diet pill manufacturers, your body ability is much limited in changing your metabolism. However, your body can play a vital role in burning more calories by adopting some lifestyle changes, such as more exercises.
Fast more to lose weight
Figure conscious people, especially films stars, vouch for “fasts” or “cleanses” by not eating for days together. Apparent benefits of fast may be loss of few pounds but this is temporary, as you will gain weight the moment you restore to your eating pattern. This is not the only demerit – starving has its own share of side effects, such as gallstones, fatigue, under nutrition, and many more. Further losing weight at a fast pace does not necessary mean losing fat – it could be losing muscle and water rather than fat.
Fat-free food ensures weight loss!
Fat free does not necessarily tantamount to calorie-free. A lot of fat-free forms of your preferred products usually contain the same if not more calories than the actual products. This is because sugar is required to be added to replace the flavor that is lost as a result of fat extraction and sugar in itself is fattening enough. Hence keeping a tab on your calorie intake is a must to lose weight.
Sugar-free or artificial sweeteners are great substitutes!
Though this is a largely acceptable fact that diet coke, or artificially-sweetened ice creams or other snaking items are often low in calories, the sugar substitutes are most likely to interfere with you body’s innate regulation system and may drag you to indulge in other sweet foods and beverages.
