Do Social Networks Spread Obesity?

Sep 13, 2007 No Comments »

According to a recent study obesity can spread through social networks and it makes perfect sense, as birds of same feather flock together. We tend to pick up the group habits easily either due to peer pressure or just through unconscious assimilation. For instance, it’s often difficult to eat healthy food if the rest of the group wants to gulp down oily stuff in the restaurant.

Similarly we also pick the lifestyle habit. Overweight people don’t like much physical activity. They mostly sit and chat or watch TV while eating fast foods and drinking cold-drinks. I’m not saying you lose your close friends (in case they need to lose weight but aren’t eager) but as they move among the successful if you want to be successful, hang around with people who want to be and remain healthy.
