In order to lose weight there is no need to join an expensive gym with latest gadgets; you can use your own body weight and exercise to lose weight and get in shape fast. Something like simple push-ups can help you reduce body fat and build your arm muscles. Similarly climbing up the stairs and running downstairs can build up your thigh muscles. But if you need something more than simply getting in shape and losing weight you need particular exercises where you can use your body weight to build your muscles.

This blog post at Zen habits lists some really neat ways of getting into shape using your body weight. In case your muscles get stronger and your body weight is not enough to give you the required challenge you can add weight to your own body gradually making sure you don’t injure bones and muscles. I remember a friend who used to tie sandbags around his arms while doing arm exercises. You can even attacked weights to your ankles while jogging.
