A University of Missouri researcher conducted the real-life experiences of members to verify what helps people to lose weight and good for overall health too. People wanting to lose weight should go for the weight loss program or stick to exercise? The finding is that both have their benefits and drawbacks. A combination of both is ideal if you want to lose weight.
Members attending the Weight Watchers for 12 weeks shed around 5 percent of their body weight. But, Steve Ball, assistant professor of exercise physiology in the MU College of Human Environmental Sciences, revealed that a large percentage of the lost weight was not fat. It was lean tissues which we need for higher metabolic rates. "Participants’ body fat percentage did not improve at all because they lost a much higher percentage than expected of lean tissue," said Ball, MU Extension state fitness specialist. On the other hand the fitness center group lost very little weight but they scored on health front. They lost intra abdominal fat (fat around vital organs) and improved their metabolic rate.
